Obama's Czars

While Justin Timberlake has been working night and day to bring "sexy" back, Obama has been busy bringing back something of his own: czars. In fact, during his short time in office he has already created more czars than any other President. To put things in perspective, let's look at some numbers. In 8 years, George W. Bush appointed 4 czars and, in only 4 months, Obama has already appointed sixteen (that we know about). You probably have a number of questions at this point and two of them might be, "Are you serious? Isn't 'czar' an old term for a monarch?" Yes and yes. According to the current Administration, these czars are nothing more than appointed officials whose purpose is to overlook their respective department of government. In reality, there's a little more to it than that. Here's some information that the Obama team might be hesitant to share with you:

• This person is immune to subpoena, congressional oversight and review
• This person answers to the President, and the President only
• This person need not be approved or confirmed by any other branch
• This person has supreme rule over the agencies which he or she is to oversee
• This person's salary is not disclosed
• The budget which this person oversees is not to be reviewed, and collectively the Obama czars oversee up to $2 trillion

I really don't know what to say, other than our Founding Fathers must be rolling in their graves. As Obama quickly forms and expands a team of people required to answer to no one but himself, I can only hope that people all across the country are asking questions other than the two I previously mentioned. Questions like, "Doesn't this system create great potential for the abuse of power? What ever happened to checks and balances? Are these czars even Constitutional?"
